A dedicated space for mental health research
SPIRE (St Patrick’s Institutional Repository) serves as a central hub for research outputs generated by SPMHS staff across various disciplines, including Medicine, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Pharmacy, Psychology, Social Work, and the SPMHS Academic Institute. It has been designed to store, catalog, index, preserve, and disseminate both published and unpublished academic work, making mental health research more widely accessible.
The repository includes articles, conference presentations, books and book chapters, technical reports, working papers, reviews, and other scholarly contributions. Where content has been previously published by external sources, SPIRE ensures compliance with the original publishers' open-access policies.
Our team has worked closely with Atmire to build and develop our new mental health research repository launched publicly in January 2025. We found the team to be efficient and approachable throughout this process and look forward to continuing our working relationship.

Enhancing research impact on mental health
SPIRE plays a crucial role in supporting mental health research by increasing its visibility and ensuring that the voices of people with lived experiences, who contribute to research, are heard and acknowledged. Managed by the SPMHS Academic Institute, the repository aligns with SPMHS’s long-standing mission; established by Jonathan Swift in 1746, to advance mental health care and research in Ireland.
