Abilene Library Consortium
U.S.A.

Organization Description

The ALC is a library consortium of 4 Texas based universities and one Public library. It consists of Abilene Christian University Library, Abilene Public Library, Hardin-Simmons University Library, McMurry University Library, and Howard Payne University Library. The Consortium also provides a framework for co-operation between these participating libraries, allowing for the sharing of materials, resources, and expertise.

Project Introduction

The ALC libraries began the digital archives project in 2004. In 2006, the project received funding from the Dodge Jones Foundation and the Dian Graves Owen Foundation. Today the Archives contains photographs, newspapers, yearbooks, letters, oral histories, periodicals, manuscripts, journals, papers, maps, directories, pamphlets and more, as well as audio files. As the technical partner early in the project, @mire was responsible for installation and customization of the platform. Today the WTDA is one of the main examples of how professional customization can turn DSpace into a full fledged Digital Collection Management system.
