Utrecht University is a research university comprising of seven faculties which collectively span the entire academic spectrum in teaching and research. Founded in 1636, the University is now a modern, leading institute enjoying a growing international reputation. In the Shanghai Ranking, Utrecht University ranks 1st in the Netherlands, 9th in Europe and 47th worldwide. The university repository infrastructure Igitur, the largest of its kind in the Netherlands, ranks eleventh in the January 2010 ranking web of world repositories. With almost 40.000 items, Igitur ranks among the largest repositories in Europe.

Utrecht University offers a broad range of 46 undergraduate and 196 graduate programmes. There are almost 30,000 students at Utrecht University and 8,500 members of staff. The University budget is EUR 715 million, 25 per cent of which comes from grants, fundraising and external contract activities, the remainder is financed by the Dutch government.

@mire has performed an upgrade of the test environment, and the production environment for the university of Utrecht. This upgrade process included applying previous changes to their DSpace repository. Some improvements to the browse performance have also been included. While DSpace is used in the back-end, the institution developed a custom front-end interface.

@mire instructed its 3 day DSpace Developer Training Program to 8 participants and provided a first hands-on experience with DSpace development for the DSpace XMLUI.
