The International Society for Horticultural Science - in short ISHS - has over 7,000 Individual Members from all over the world, a substantial number of Institutional Members and some 50 Member States/Countries.

It is a major source of up-to-date information on global horticultural research. ISHS aims to promote research in all branches of horticulture.

The aim of the ISHS is "...to promote and encourage research and education in all branches of horticultural science and to facilitate cooperation and knowledge transfer on a global scale through its symposia and congresses, publications and scientific structure."

Introduction

For the International Society for Horticultural Science, @mire took on the challenge to create an additional layer of functionality on top of DSpace, in order to manage the conference submission workflow. Through careful analysis, design and implementation, @mire was able to capture the ISHS specific workflow, and alter the existing DSpace workflow system to ensure a flawless operation.

Customizations

The concepts of users and administrators in DSpace were improved and extended, to cope with roles such as convener, editor-in-chief, reviewer and author. The system is now being used to improve administration and online visibility for horticultural symposia all around the globe.
